Avenir Bank has created a "Peer-to-Peer" (P2P) lending platform to "Help Us Build Congo". P2P lending , often grouped in with crowdfunding, is the practice of lending money to individuals or businesses through online services that match lenders with borrowers.
With crowdfunding an investor receives equity or a reward. Peer-to-peer lending is a different model: rather than owning an equity stake in a business, investors’ money is matched, via an online platform, to a loan for a person or business. A loan is very different to equity: it’s a specific amount of money, repaid over a defined term, and investors earn a return via interest payable on the loan. Borrowers get the funds they need to grow, and Lenders can earn attractive returns as they pay them back. P2P Lending is an alternative finance practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of lenders.

Crowdfunding is a form of fund-raising, that is based on the theory that if lots of people are willing to Lend a small amount of money towards a project, then the project is likely to be successful. This is an old idea, that has been revolutionised by the Internet and is now a common tool that is used to help fund a project, collect money for a good cause or raise investment in a business.
